This program looks beyond familiar labels to ask what truly shapes the sound we call “American.” Many of the musical languages we associate with this country—folk, bluegrass, jazz—carry origins far older and broader than our national story. Through works by composers who engage these histories, this concert reveals American music not as a single lineage, but as a meeting place where cultures, memories, and identities converge.
