The MMF puts its oar in the river for a look at music all about water from the great classical hits of Schubert and Delibes to the folk music of our own parched western states. Instrumental and vocal music help tell the story of where we’ve come from and where we might end up. Composer/percussionist Pius Cheung’s new, MMF-commissioned piece explores the fluid theme. Click the Artists & Program tab above for more information.

Event Description: The Festival Stage and seating area are on the lawn at scenic Red Cliffs Lodge, overlooking the Colorado River and set against towering red rock walls, which blaze in the distance at sunset. This spectacular location and the surrounding area have appeared in numerous films, and there is a museum on-site honoring that history. You may well recognize the view!

Pre-Concert Panel: Just before the show, attend a free pre-concert panel at the Red Cliffs Lodge River Deck from 5:30-6:30 PM. Panel members discuss water and the Colorado River as the basis of the Hopi religion, as a source of inspiration for tonight’s world premiere, and the river’s imperiled future. Panelists include Pius Cheung, percussion, composer, John Weisheit, Co-Founder at Living Rivers & Colorado Riverkeeper, Howard Dennis, Native American flutist, Hopi Elder, and Serah Mead, moderator.
