Before the jazz age, Scott Joplin turned the musical world on its ear when he introduced ragtime music at the Columbian Exposition of 1892 in Chicago. A decade later, he was America’s most popular composer and the leader of the new ragtime craze. The MMF reanimates Joplin’s genius in live performances and looks at his continuing influence on other composers.

About the venue: The Festival stage and seating area are on the lawn at scenic Red Cliffs Lodge, overlooking the Colorado River and set against towering red rock walls, which blaze in the distance at sunset. This spectacular location and the surrounding area have appeared in numerous films, and there is a museum on-site honoring that history. You may well recognize the view!
