Philip Ambuel (Kim Hawkey and the Elvanelle Band)
Philip Ambuel is a Thai/American upright & electric bassist from Falls Church, VA. He got his start in music as a teenager playing bass guitar in rock bands and bass trombone in orchestras. In 2009, Philip discovered his love for jazz and chose to learn upright bass. He spent three years at George Mason University studying with professor Glenn Dewey. He then relocated to Paris in 2012 where he learned to speak French while playing in local jazz clubs. In 2016, Philip made the move to the world's jazz capitol, NYC, where he studied with the legendary bassist Ron Carter. Philip is now an in-demand bassist in his current hometown of Brooklyn, NYC. He has performed all over the world, including The Shanghai Music Hall, Jazz at Marciac, and at his personal favorite jazz club, the now closed Bohemian Caverns.
